Are you a literary agent or a former book publicist or marketing expert, or did you learn this stuff from promoting your own book? I’m evaluating several “platform building” webinars and I want the one that is taught by an expert. I’m not trying to be mean, but I can’t see your credentials anywhere on this site.
Hey, Susan! I take no offense whatsoever! I appreciate your interest and am pleased you took the time to visit, read and write! I see lots of platform building webinars being offered by people I’ve never heard of who call themselves social media experts but when you get right down to it, have no idea what writers need specifically to build a unique online and in person platform. Why? Because they have never done it themselves. They take ideas that in THEORY should work or may have worked in another medium and apply it across the board–and say, “here–this works, so do this.” At the end of the day, I can tell you I have 20 years experience in marketing but really, who cares? What you REALLY need to know is, that in 2008 I satrted writing a book. Now in 2011, there is this. But to answer your question: I do in fact have over twenty years of marketing and product launch experience. I AM NOT A LITERARY AGENT. However, I do work with agents and editors daily helping them promote and market their books and authors. I also vet for eleven agents, am often asked to judge and organize writing contests, am a successful freelance editor, speak at writers conferences, etc. I think if you follow this blog, my tweets, my facebook, YALITCHAT.ORG, #yalitchat–all of that is pretty widely known. Here is a link to an interview I did on platform building last year: http://www.editorialdepartment.com/blogs/georgia-mcbride-on-platform-building-for-the-pre-published-author.html
I wish you the very best in finding a suitable webinar and thanks for your comment. I was moved to update my bio on the blog!
